Summer is here and I can’t be more excited!

The seasons in Toronto often turn over quickly so its important to enjoy the summer when you can as it is often short.

This summer has been a busy one for me so far! However, thankfully I’ve been able to enjoy an international trip, a couple local ones and in the process have been able to collect a few favourites I’d love to share.

I will break these up into categories to make it easy to read, so here are my summer favs for 2022:

1. Saie Slip tint

This is a newer product for me this summer that I ended up buying on a whim when I was in Sephora. Thankfully this lightweight formula was just what I needed during these warmer months when I don’t want to be wearing a heavy foundation. The best thing about this skin tint is that it is fairly long-wearing and gives you good amount of coverage. It also pairs well with the Shiseido sunscreen stick that I mention below.

2. l’oreal tubing mascara

This is an old classic product that I have used for years and I rediscovered it this year and cannot recall why I stopped using it! If you have trouble with raccoon eyes like I do and don’t like the process of removing waterproof mascara this one if for you! This is a tubing formula which makes it easily removable with just water but at the same time it is essentially water resistant and sweatproof! So you will NOT get any transfer to the bottom of your eyes. I wore this mascara while I swam in the ocean in Greece and it did not budge! This product was recently on sale at my local drugstore so I stocked up.

3. egyptian magic

This is also another old favourite that I have used for years and years. I know that “slugging” has become a newer skincare craze. This is something that I was doing before I knew there was a name for it! If you don’t already know, slugging is just the process of slathering rich and emollient products on your skin at night in order to wake up with replenished and hydrated skin the next morning! In the summer this is even more important especially for someone like me who is outdoors a lot more often and will occasionally use self tanner on my face. Egyptian magic is a great product for this purpose and has stood the test of time. I have been using this product consistently for 5 years and find myself repurchasing it often.

4. shisheido sunscreen stick

This is another workhorse of a product that I’m excited to share. I have tried and tested many many facial sunscreens and this is by far the best one I have tried and have been using it for a few years now. Recently it has blown up on tiktok making it fairly difficult to find. I thankfully found it in stock after weeks of searching my local Shoppers Drug Mart and snagged 3 so that I wasn’t without it again. This is a clear stick sunscreen that leaves absolutely no white cast on the face (for tan and darker skin tones whitecast is the worst). This sunscreen goes well under most makeup formulas and the best part is that after you’ve done your makeup you can totally use this to reapply sunscreen on top of your makeup without moving you makeup all over your face. If you can find this product in stock I 100% recommend trying it out, you will not be disappointed!

5. goop unseen sunscreen

As mentioned above, there was a little lapse in time in which I was without my Shiseido sunscreen stick so I had to look for an alternative. I did my research and found this one on Sephora’s website that had pretty good reviews. I tried it out and I must say, I do really enjoy it. If you’re looking for a good sunscreen/primer this is a great one. In the summers when it’s hot and sweaty sometimes its nice to have a nice primer like this one that doesn’t add to the sweat or slip and slide under makeup.

6. Body shop body oil

Admittedly, this is a new product that I recently purchased a few weeks ago but I have been thoroughly enjoying so far. During the summers the skin on our body can be very dry especially if you are spending a lot of time at the beach or the pool or just out in the sun. I’m not a fan of rich body butters or lotions in the summer because I find them a bit too heavy. A dry oil does a great job at moisturizing your skin while not feeling greasy or heavy.

7. ysl mini lou bag

I purchased this bag back in 2020 after what I thought was the end of a pandemic (that was not the case, ha!). This was sort of a gift to myself after completing my first year as a lawyer. I don’t often purchase luxury goods here in Canada due to the cost but for this one, I am glad I bit the bullet and made this purchase because the prices have since increased for this particular bag. I take a lot of time to think about my luxury purchases before making them so all of my bags basically have a story behind them which I love. It also helps avoid buyers remorse and the trouble of reselling pieces.

8. tom ford sunglasses

I don’t purchase sunglasses very often although they are an item that I use regularly throughout the year. I made this purchase while I was on my summer vacation in Greece. There were some savings with this pair of sunglasses since I made the purchase in Europe and had the benefit of the VAT refund. I’ve spent years wearing the same Ray-Ban aviators which I still do love but as I’ve gotten older I find that a large pair of classic sunglasses is something I’ve been missing in my collection. I love this particular pair because of the gradient lenses.

9. soludos espadrilles

Lastly, this is another new purchase of mine this year. I absolutely love Soludos as a brand and I think their shoes are some of the most comfortable. There was a sale earlier this summer for 2 or more pairs which my husband and I took advantage of (this sale is still ongoing – 20% off your second pair). I’ve always wanted a pair of espadrilles of this style and decided to go with a black pair (I would like a cream pair too at some point). These shoes are super classy and comfortable, I would 100% recommend. It can be dressed up and down – I did some research on Pinterest before I made this purchase to make sure it would go well with my existing wardrobe, so far I’ve gotten a lot of use out of these!

Let me know what you’ve been enjoying and loving this summer in the comments! I am always curious to see what others seem to really enjoy and prioritize during the warmer months. And that wraps up my summer favs for 2020!
