It’s been a while since I have written a post here on my blog but I am working on getting inspired and adding some fun content to this passion project of mine! This season I am making an effort to add more colours to my wardrobe. I love a good capsule wardrobe however I am really trying to add colours to my existing wardrobe that is well stocked with basics and neutrals. Tactfully and thoughtfully adding colour to your wardrobe is a great way to inject some excitement into the day to day task of getting dressed in the mornings.
In this post I’d like to share some of my recent finds and some outfits that I’ve been able to style with my new pieces. The purpose of this post is really to provide inspiration that you can take and implement into your own closet. If you have any questions about some of the pieces I found, feel free to leave a comment or reach out to me directly (via email or on instagram) and I’ll be sure to get back to you. I am making a conscious effort to provide meaningful inspiration rather than bombard my readers with affiliate links. I also think that there are ways to use blogs and photos to spark ideas rather than as a shopping catalogue. There are a number of ways to recreate looks that you admire without spending money and using pieces you already own.
If you’re a regular reader, you may already know that I’ve been using an app called Stylebook which I’ve used for a few years now in order to get myself organized (especially when travelling) with respect to outfits and cost per wear in my closet. There is a feature that allows you to view your recent additions, here is a snapshot of my recent additions to my wardrobe:
As you can see, I am really entering my “colour era” this spring and summer. More particularly, I am loving pastels and pink. Focusing on a particular colour family allows you to easily integrate colour into your capsule wardrobe. In addition, buying colours really allows you to taking your neutral pieces further by allowing you to create more unique colour combinations with unique colours rather than using textures and shapes (which is common when you are working with neutral colours).
Knits
Thin, short sleeve knits have been a great addition to my wardrobe especially as i am beginning to return to the office once a week and as the weather is getting warmer. A thin, short sleeve knit is great to pair with cardigans and trousers for a classic and comfortable work look. Here are some ways that I was able to style a one of the short sleeve knits I purchased during my birthday trip to New York in April.
One piece outfits
Another category of clothing that I am really loving this season are one-piece outfits, this includes rompers and dresses. I purchased a few this year so far. I am trying to stick to prints and colour. The reason for this is, like may of you, I have a good amount of separates in neutral tones and colours. Therefore purchasing a white or black romper for me is less appealing because I am able to create a similar look with a black top and shorts for example. The same with white or tan. Purchasing a bright coloured or patterned dress or romper is great because the outfit is generally one requires one piece therefore you don’t need to worry about making colour combinations.
Coloured matching sets
Another gap in my wardrobe for which I certainly filled recently is a coloured matching set. I found a coloured, pajama-style poplin set that would be great for the summer and for vacation. The colour is super fun and one that you can pair with neutrals separately.
I also found a really cute and affordable lounge set at Uniqlo. I love this colour so much and it is a perfect match to Mod About You by OPI. I purchased both the sweat pants and short version to make it as versatile as possible. This is a great travel outfit, the colour is a great addition to a travel capsule as it can easily be paired with neutrals.
Workwear
Lastly, I have recently been mandated to return to the office once a week which has certainly forced me to re-evaluate my workwear wardrobe. I have added a few pieces that I can use in and out of the office keeping in line with my themes of colour and print for the spring summer season. I cannot wait to get good use of these pieces this spring and summer and for years to come.
I think I have done a great job so far this year picking out new pieces thoughtfully so as to enhance my existing wardrobe and this is something I am planning to carry into the remainder of the year. If you’re on the hunt for some inspiration I encourage you to follow my blog and my instagram account where I usually post my outfits. Remember, if you have a diverse wardrobe, it is likely that you are able to recreate your favourite inspiration outfits with pieces you already own.
