The holidays are coming up and I cannot be more excited. We really need this positive and festive time especially now during what seems to be this never ending pandemic.
Here are some quick and easy ways to thank your staff during the holidays. If you have the pleasure of having an assistant or a clerk (or both) its really important to show your appreciation and gratitude for everything that they do for you. Remember, as lawyers we cannot complete our tasks without our support staff. As someone who has been an assistant and has worked an administrative role before, I understand first-hand that gestures of appreciation or gratitude can be so important and can really lift your spirits. It’s confirmation that you are doing a good job and just a warm feeling of recognition. This is also transferable to those who just want to show their appreciation for their boss or coworkers.
Here are some ideas for any budget:
1. an electronic gift card
Now that we are working from home primarily this is a great way to show your appreciation. If this is what you choose to do I think its important to include a nice little personal note of appreciation.
Here are some gift card ideas:
- Tim Hortons
- Starbucks
- McDonalds
- Shoppers DrugMart
- A grocery store gift card (we all buy groceries)
- Uber eats
2. a gift basket
There are a bunch of local companies that offer gift basket deliveries and will likely be pretty busy during this time of year. I actually received a basket for thanksgiving and I loved it, it was so nice and thoughtful. I would look into some local businesses that offer this type of service as it is a cute idea especially because it is low hassle and can be delivered right to the recipient’s doorstep.
Here are some companies I was able to find that service the GTA:
3. a DIY care package
This is for the creatives out there. There are tons of ideas on instagram and pinterest for simple care packages that you can mail with any carrier (make sure if you are mailing fragiles that you package the item well to ensure it does not break).
Here are some ideas:
4. flowers
If the recipient loves flowers a beautiful arrangement is such a nice way to express your thanks and appreciation, a cute plant also works as well!
5. a card
Lastly if you don’t necessarily have the budget to get anything monetary, just a card or a written note expressing your gratitude is a nice gesture (whether it be a physical card or an e-card). It’s nice to be appreciated and it doesn’t necessarily need to cost a lot of money to make someone feel good. A well thought-out message is enough. You can even create cards if you’re artistic enough (I actually did this last year and they were a hit at the office).
BONUS: Charcuterie Boxes
This is a really unique and trendy option. A great way to look for local businesses is through an instagram search. There are lots of local vendors that do their business exclusively on instagram. You can order one to be delivered, I absolutely love this idea and I will probably be ordering a few this year, I’m really excited! Do your research and make sure you are happy with the photos and read reviews!
I did an e-gift card this year! It’s just a small thank you to something nice 🙂
