Wardrobe

This year I really made a conscious effort to document my outfits in the Stylebook app. If you have no idea what I mean, check out this post. This app has really changed the way I approach my wardrobe and has really helped me use items in my wardrobe that were collecting dust for the past year.

With this app, I’m able to to determine the items in my closet that have the best and worst CPW (cost per wear).

As you can see, I really made the most of my lounge and active wear pieces. A lot of my pieces are are newer items in my closet that I actually purchased this year during the Aritzia clientele sale. The first item is my Lululemon fanny pack which I used for almost every walk. I have been pretty good with integrating a daily 1 hour walk into my work from home day. The other items are lounge wear that I’ve been wearing throughout the year as I spent most of my time working from home. I am most proud of all the use I’ve made of my green Club Monaco trench coat which I purchased before the pandemic but didn’t really get to use as much as I’d like.

In terms of the worst cost per wear items, you will notice that most of these are my more expensive pieces most of which I just got (ie the YSL bag I got during my recent trip to France). There are also more dressy pieces that I haven’t really been able to use as often due to the ongoing on and off lockdown that has been 2021 (ugh). Interestingly, a lot of my denim pieces also made it to this list which is also a symptom of this year.

I became really interested in gold fine jewelry this year more than ever before. I purchased a number of mejuri pieces which I have worn and loved since I purchased them. I also bought a handmade bracelet from Monte Carlo as well as a dainty chain from Etsy. I was able to purchase a number of pieces from Mejuri during their black friday sale and I am loving them. I am planning on doing a whole separate post about my jewelry collection – let me know if this would be of interest to you in the comments!

In terms of non-wardrobe related purchases, a little bit earlier this year we purchased a new fridge and induction oven which have truly changed our lifestyles. As someone who works from home, I am often in the kitchen. I open and shut the fridge door almost as often as I turn bathroom light on and off. Needless to say, our appliances were original to the condo and were outdated. Our fridge was not the best in terms of space and had survived a number of broken pieces. The induction stove has also been a great change and a true time saver. An induction stovetop gives you the ability to boil water in seconds. The cooktop is so much easier to clean and because we had invested in good quality pots and pans early on we only needed to get rid of one when we got this new stove/oven (all the ones we purchased are induction compatible).

I also love these wine glasses that I purchased from Ikea (I have already broken two) but they were well priced and they make having a drink at home feel so much better (most of us have gotten into this way more especially this year).

This year I also purchased some outdoor furniture pieces for our balcony and I am so pleased with the result! I have spent more of my work from home days out on the balcony enjoying our new furniture. I love that we have a ravine facing unit so there is tons of privacy and we can really enjoy the outdoors peacefully.

Lastly, I purchased a balloon pump from amazon that I’ve actually used a number of times, surprisingly, as we were fortunate enough to celebrate a few events this year. Prior to getting this balloon pump, I was using a random electric pump that was used to blow up things like sports balls and tires and it just wasn’t nearly as effective as this balloon pump. I am so glad I got this and think I will be able to get some more use of it especially as my friends and I are turning 30 this year! I totally recommend a balloon pump if you’re big on entertaining or are usually commissioned to help with decorations!

In terms of worst purchases, I have to mention my sheets that I purchased from Ikea on a whim and without actually looking into the fabric composition. I would have returned them but I foolishly washed them in order to find out that I really didn’t like them.

I can’t think of anything else that I would put in my worst purchases list (I guess this is a good thing!). However if anything does come to mind I will be sure to update this post accordingly!

Let me know what your best and worst purchase of 2021 is in the comments below!
