This is my last “what I bought this month” for 2020. I cannot believe how quickly this year has gone by.

For 2021, I plan on making this series more of a financial update/spend report sort of series where I will go into what I spent vs. what I budgeted for the month, whether I met those goals and perhaps a short reflection on what I learned. If you have any suggestions of what you’d like to know/read please let me know in the comments!

For this last “what I bought this month”, I will just go ahead and do my classic numbered categories of what was on the top of my spending:

  1. Gifts – at the top of my list was of course what I spent on gifts this month. It is the holidays after all. As a disclaimer I am being fully transparent here. I have moved away from actual gifts this year and really just gave cash to my immediate family. I spent a total of about $1,200 on gifts this year which is not that crazy. I am very fortunate and I think the holidays are a great way to give back to my loved ones. You don’t necessarily need to spend money in order to show your family that you care but I also think that giving during this time (if you are able to) is a great way to express your gratitude.
  2. Clothing/shoes – ok I am not proud of this (hence my no-buy January and my low buy 2021), but I spent about $500 this month on two pairs of booties (I’ve been wanting these for over a year now and they went on sale).
  3. For all my other categories I was well within the budget I set for myself aside from groceries. I went over my $300 budget (about $20). Despite it being the holidays I really limited my grocery bill because I knew we wouldn’t necessarily be entertaining this year.

I know that was quick but that concludes my December 2020. I will think of ways to improve this series in the coming year (I have a few ideas in mind). Let me know if you’re enjoying this content in the comments below!
