Another month, another spending report. I always try to update my excel sheet of my spending throughout the month (I aim for once a week). This helps me keep on track in terms of my budget and allows me to have a good sense of what I am earning/spending throughout the month. This will be a third month in a row reflecting on my spending via blog post.
I encourage getting into the habit of regularly checking your bank account and spending so you can keep it in check.
Here is a summary of my notable purchases this month:
1. skincare/beauty
I spent about $100 on this category this month. I actually ran out of a bunch of things including one of the shampoos I use regularly, my face wash, cuticle remover and my living proof dry volume blast spray. I was able to get most of this (a lot of this stuff was sold out in stores). I wasn’t able to find my favourite face wash which is the CeraVe foaming wash for normal to oily skin. I have been using this since I had my adult acne breakouts and I have never found anything comparable. I ended up buying the Biotherm micellar foaming wash and I am really enjoying it. It is probably the next best thing although the CeraVe is about half the price.
2. Meals and Entertainment
This category of spending for me is beginning to increase especially since restrictions are beginning to relax and gathering are becoming more common. I went out three times to eat and spent about $100 in this category this month.
3. Clothing/Shoes
As usual this is where I spent the bulk of my money this month. I actually spent about over $700 but let me just say that the items I purchased were ones I wanted for over a year now and I was able to get a good deal on all three of these items. I just want to be realistic and transparent about my spending. I do not usually spend this much in this category in a given month and when I do I usually get a lot more.
This month I decided to take the plunge and purchase a pair of black suede knee high boots. These were on sale on at The Bay, naturally my size was sold out but I was able to find the same boots on Amazon for the same price. After I made the purchase, I was thinking I was probably going to try them on and hate them. I was prepared to send them back but I actually loved how they fit (surprisingly). I am keeping them and think they are a great addition to my wardrobe since I don’t have any high boots at all. I am not very tall and I’m really picky about the shape and look of high boots, I am glad I found this pair.
I also purchased a knit cardigan from J.crew that I have wanted for years now but I have never purchased because I couldn’t justify paying full price for it (it is originally over $200 CAD). J.crew had a sale and I was able to get it online for 30% off so I’m pretty happy about that.
I purchased a small black crossbody bag from coach online. I love Coach bags and I usually purchase several bags throughout the year. This was not the case this year. I actually sold about 3 bags on Poshmark since the lockdown, one of which was my only black crossbody bag which was also from Coach. I purchased a replacement which I am so pleased about because this is something I used regularly. I sold my old one because it was beginning to wear at the corners and I was not crazy about the shape. I think the new Coach bag I got (on sale and also from the outlet I believe) is going to be a better for me as the shape is more what I was looking for (a camera-style bag).
Lastly, I purchased some leather leggings from Nordstrom. I had a $40 credit from some shopping I did earlier this year so this was a great time to use it. I bought the commando leggings after lots of research. Although they are pricey they are 100% worth it. I have purchased the Daria legging from Artizia and I did not like the material or the fit at all (they were similar to the Spanx ones in terms of material). I sold this pair on Poshmark and decided to get these and I am so glad I did.
I am so excited for these items even though I have limited plans to be out this for the remainder of the year, these are things I will be able to get lots of use of in the future seasons.
3. Home Office
I also made a few home office purchases this month. After going into the office the other day for a discovery and things not going as planned (and truthfully not getting as much done as I planned) I decided that I will not be going into the office nearly as much as I was. It is just not worth the commute for me. Earlier this summer, my firm has confirmed that we will be working from home until at least the end of the year so I thought I should begin making my home office more permanent and comfortable
This starts with getting more storage and getting some organization in this room. I also went ahead and ordered a proper office chair. I plan to make an updated WFH update post with my favourite items once I get everything in the mail so stay tuned for that!
