I have been pretty consistent this year about following a workout plan. During the holidays last year, I did a “12 days of fitmas” series in my instagram where I featured 12 of my favourite youtube workout channels. Back when I started working out, I was following workout programs that you had to actually purchase. It’s so great that there are endless resources on youtube that you can access for free.

I love reading reviews of different workout plans and one thing I love doing before trying a workout video on youtube is look at the comments prior to previewing the video. I wanted to provide a quick summary and overview of my thoughts and experience doing Heather Roberton’s monthly workout plans. I have completed two of Heather’s monthly workout plans this year and I am working on my third month.

In terms of Heather’s workout calendars, you are able to access these calendars for free on her website by joining her e-mail list. I usually open the digital calendar on my “books” app on my iPad and I will use the pen tool to cross of the days as I complete it. I love that she also has a youtube playlist which allows you to see the videos in chronological order. The workout calendar is linked to the workout video as well. The calendar contains both new and old workout and there is a ton of variety. I like that she mixes no repeat workouts (m personal favourite) with AMRAP-style workouts and strength training. The calendar has two rest rest days (the weekend) consecutively but I will usually take one day off at a time because that is my preference (instead of taking two back to back days off).

Another thing I noticed about Heather’s workouts is that she does a pretty good warm up and stretch at the end and her introductions are very short making the duration of the video close to the length of the workout (including warm ups and cool downs).

I have a habit of checking what I’m getting into prior to beginning a workout, Heather’s more recent videos include break downs of the circuits and sets in the description box as well as time stamps. I also love that the duration varies to keep things interesting. Generally the videos are anywhere from 30 minutes to 45 minutes including the stretch.

All in all, I love that Heather’s workouts always leave me feeling like I really exerted a good amount of energy and I love that her workout plans are well rounded and include variety so it never gets boring. I would certainly give her monthly workout plans a try if you’re looking to challenge yourself.
