If you’re celebrating a new baby in the family or a colleague who is becoming a new mother, this post is for you! This is how to create the perfect baby gift basket.

I have made about 3 of these this year and I’ve learned how to craft the perfect basket and have come up with some pointers on how to make the basket look great while also keeping in mind different budgets.

Here are my top tips  and ideas on how to create the PERFECT baby gift basket (most of these times are transferable to other types of baskets.

1. Get your basket first

First thing’s first, make sure you get the basket FIRST. I have made the mistake of getting the items before the basket and things did not fit. Its so important to get your basket and then purchase accordingly. Otherwise, if you have a larger item, make sure you have the dimensions or at least keep your basket receipt and if it doesn’t work out you can always return or exchange it.

2. use filler

A lot of baskets are pretty deep and if you don’t want to be getting a gazillion things you can certainly employ some useful tips to make the basket appear full without having to spend a fortune. IN terms of the bottom of the basket, I find it very helpful to put any thicker items (ie. a heavy blanket) at the bottom. If you need some filler, use bubble wrap, filler or even scrunched up paper to create some lift at the bottom of the basket. Then you can place all of your items over top.

What I love doing is saving bubblewrap from my online orders and repurposing it (this also works well if you ordered some of your items online – love repurposing things!). You can also find bubble wrap and filler at your local dollarstore. You can use newspaper or store flyers as “filler” and then use decorative tissue paper over top to disguise the newspaper/store flyers.

3. Books

One of my favourite gift ideas were BOOKS. Books are so great for little ones and I feel like many people overlook books. Baby books , sensory books and educational books are great for baby development and are a perfect addition to a baby basket.

4. stuffed animal

A great way to full up space in a basket and make it appear more full is to get a nice little stuffed animal. It also makes the basket look great! A cute soft little stuffed animal is usually a great hit with baby and is something they can grow with as well.

5. essentials

When in doubt of how to fill up your basket, think about essentials! Baby toiletries go fast so getting some wipes, diapers, soaps and shampoos are great to get. Also things like baby detergent and dryer sheets are always things parents can use for baby.

6. Personalized gifts

Another unique idea that people LOVE are personalized gifts. This is of course a lot easier when you know baby’s name but even if its just the first letter, a personalized gift is so cute and thoughtful. Once thing I have always gotten good feedback on is a little personalized name sign that you can get on Etsy. This is great for photos. Etsy really has some beautiful personalized items including teethers and pacifier clips.

7. don’t forget the decor!

This is my absolute favourite part and I feel like decorating your basket is so important. Presentation is everything. All you need to do is visit your local dollar store for some bows and decor. I also get my basket wrap there as well. There are since basket wraps that come with bows that you can purchase that are so helpful when making these baskets. I always throw in additional bows and ribbons to make it really pop!

8. Uber packages for delivery

Lastly, if you don’t have the time tor ability to drive something to the recipient (these baskets are not exactly post-office friendly), I recommend using Uber to send your packages! I hav already used Uber a couple of times to do this successfully. It is great because you can share the location with the recipient. This is of course a great option when the recipient is fairly local.

Have fun creating your own baby baskets and make sure to share some photos and tag me on instagram!
