I decided to upgrade my monthly spend blogs with a hybrid post about my purchases each month, what I regret, what I love and other favourite things.
Love a good monthly reflection because I am too nosey for my own good! I also find this a great monthly reflection of my finances and of course my consumption.
August was a pretty eventful month. I had my nephew and my sister come visit at the start of the month, went to a friends wedding and enjoyed a few dinners out since the lockdown had ended and we were allowed to eat in doors (something I have certainly taken for granted). I also got my hair done! Pretty expensive month in terms of non tangible items
My low buy is a real struggle especially during these times where going to the mall after a lockdown really triggers my urge to buy.
Closet
In terms of my closet, I made a purchase at Uniqlo for some basic t shirts and a black tote bag all of which I’ve used several times this month already so no regrets here. Uniqlo is my favourite place to go for basic T-shirts.
I also purchased a pair of Birkenstock’s which I’ve wanted for years now but never pulled the trigger. I am so over buying cheap, cute sandals that only hurt my feet. I thought these sandals in a neutral colour would be a great option. I’ve already used it a few times including on a 5km walk with no issues so super happy about that.
I also made a couple impulse stupid purchases at The Gap and H and M which I ended up just returning.
Social
Socially I was keeping busy this month, excited to be able to eat out indoors. Of note was an exceptionally unique and amazing restaurant called Chotto Matte which recently opened up in Toronto. Quite expensive but given the year we’ve had, totally worth the experience.
Home
I was in a mood and purchased new sheets from IKEA which I don’t know if I regret or not yet since I’ve been to lazy to wash them and throw them onto the bed. In the same Ikea order I also bought some new wine glasses which I am loving! Our old mismatched ones were really not cute.
EDIT: I regret the sheets! I realize that I cannot buy non-linen sheets. It makes such a huge difference in how much heat is retained. I find linen sheets nice and cool whereras these ones really a bit of over heating.
Uber
I’ve been toying with the idea of getting my own car for a while now. My husband has one and if I need to use it and he’s home it’s available to me but there’s another level of freedom and independence in having your own vehicle. Because I went out twice this month, I used Uber to get to and from these places. What I paid for my rides is certainly less than getting my own car and I wouldn’t always be able to drive especially of course when I’m going downtown or if I plan to consume some alcoholic beverages.
Beauty
I also got my hair done this month finally! The last time I got it done was March then the lockdown happened. I was on the wait list for a while now so I was so pleased for my time to come.
I also purchased a few sets of press on nails in order to test them out. I love a good french manicure but cannot do this myself so I found this to be the best salon-free solution.
Gifts and Cakes
I went to a wedding, my nephew was over from Windsor and it was my cousin’s baby’s baptism (for which I am the godmother so thats exciting!). So its fair to say a I spend a good amount on gifts and cake ingredients! As part of my godmother gift I also offered to make 24 cupcakes and two 2-tier cakes, I really did enjoy it. It’s been a while since I got to make a bunch of cakes.
And thats everything, stay tuned for more monthly posts and feel free to e-mail me or follow me on instagram for live updates on what I’m up to!
