As I am writing this, I have been working from home for close to 3 months now. Although this has come with a little but of a learning curve, I have quickly learned to adapt. I have also purchased some things for my at-home work station that have been real game changers.

Although I have a proper set up in our den, unfortunately I don’t have a window. On days when its sunny, I’ll sit at my kitchen table or in my living room so I can enjoy the outdoor light. It makes a huge difference working in an environment with a window and natural light.

I just wanted to share some of my essential workspace items that have made my work-from-home experience a lot more comfortable.

First, I brought a monitor home from work (just one) so I have a nice large screen to work off of instead of my tiny laptop screen. I also purchased a nice acrylic monitor stand so that my screen is elevated to a proper height. While pretty aesthetically pleasing, this stand isn’t adjustable but I do like that it doesn’t clutter up my work space.

I also have my google home mini which I will use to ask abut the weather (for my afternoon walks) and for the date and other random questions. It’s also helpful if you want to play your office playlist (or you can just get a little speaker).

I also got a wireless headset which has been really helpful as it allows me to do my telephone conferences while being handsfree. If you don’t already have this, I would recommend getting one that has a long lasting battery so your headset isn’t dying in the middle of calls (yes, this has happened to be before with my wireless headphones I used it use, more than once sadly – quite embarrassing).

I also have a charging station for my cell phone. This is an inexpensive one I got from Ikea , it provides a good designated place for your phone while also keeping it fully charged especially for those conference calls.

Lastly another two things that you need to have is a water bottle (the larger the better so you don’t have to get up and fill it every hour) and a desk lamp. It is important to have a well lit work space especially if your office or workspace does not have any natural lighting. A well lit workplace will allow you to be more awake and productive instead of ready for a nap.
